Blofield Parish Council Sets Its 2025–2026 Precept

At its January meeting, Blofield Parish Council formally approved the annual precept — the portion of council tax collected on behalf of the parish — for the financial year 2025–2026. This decision follows a detailed budget review carried out by councillors and the parish clerk over the preceding months.

What Is the Parish Precept?

The precept is the amount of money Blofield Parish Council requests from Broadland District Council (now part of the new South Norfolk and Broadland councils) to fund local services and initiatives that benefit residents directly. It forms a small but important part of each household's council tax bill.

Unlike county or district council services, the parish precept pays for locally controlled priorities such as:

  • Maintenance of the village green and open spaces
  • Upkeep of noticeboards, benches, and street furniture
  • Support for community events and local grants
  • Administration of the council, including the parish clerk
  • Contributions toward capital projects and reserve funds

How the Budget Was Determined

Councillors reviewed current spending commitments, anticipated maintenance costs, and any new projects planned for the coming year. A contingency reserve is also maintained in line with best practice guidance from the National Association of Local Councils (NALC) and Norfolk Association of Local Councils (NALC Norfolk).

The budget process is transparent and the full budget breakdown is available to any resident who wishes to inspect it. Copies can be requested from the parish clerk.

How Residents Can Find Out More

The council's financial records, including annual accounts and audit reports, are published each year in accordance with the requirements of the Accounts and Audit Regulations. These documents are made available for public inspection during the appropriate notice period.

Residents with questions about the precept or how parish funds are spent are welcome to attend any parish council meeting — meetings are open to the public and include time for parishioner questions at the start of each session.

Looking Ahead

The council remains committed to delivering value for money and maintaining the quality of life in Blofield. Councillors have highlighted several priorities for the year ahead, including improvements to footpaths, continued engagement with planning matters, and supporting community organisations through the local grants scheme.

The next meeting of Blofield Parish Council is open to all residents. Check the noticeboards and this website for the latest agendas and meeting dates.
