The Council

Blofield Parish Council is the first level of local government and the closest to the community it serves, comprising the villages of Blofield and Blofield Heath.

Blofield Parish Council consists of up to 12 residents from the villages, who give their time and effort freely for the benefit of the community. Members of the Parish Council are normally elected to serve, by the residents of Blofield and Blofield Heath, every 4 years.

The Parish Council is responsible for many things including:

  • Monitoring and reporting on the general tidiness of the village

  • Expressing views and recommendations on local Planning Applications

  • Following the Neighbourhood Plan when considering future development of the Parish

It also looks after the provision and maintenance of:

  • Bus Shelters

  • Blofield Allotments

  • The Village signs

  • The Village Clock

  • Public Seating/Benches

  • Litter and Dog Bins

Members of the Parish Council meet once a month at a Parish Council Meeting to discuss, report, monitor and, most importantly, make decisions on matters concerning the villages of Blofield & Blofield Heath. Minutes of meetings are produced shortly afterwards and published as draft minutes until approved at the next Parish Council Meeting.

These Meetings are held at either Blofield Courthouse or Heathlands Community Centre once a month at 7.30 pm.  Click for the meeting dates.

Each year the councillors choose a chairman from amongst their number.  There is also a vice-chairman and a paid parish clerk, who is the Proper Officer and the Responsible Financial Officer of the council.

A Parish Council must hold an annual meeting during May and at least three other meetings during the year.  Parish Councils must provide a set of accounts at the end of each financial year, audited by an internal and an external auditor.

The Parish Council has the power to improve the quality of community life by spending money on things which, in their opinion, are in the interests of the parish or its inhabitants.

The Annual Meeting of the Parish is not a Parish Council meeting as such, rather it is an opportunity for the community to come together and report on matters of interest and progress over the past year.

The meeting is usually held in May each year and is alternated between Heathlands Community Centre and The Courthouse.

The Chairman of the Parish Council facilitates the meeting and minutes are taken, which are published along with the reports presented to the community.

An agenda for the meeting (and later on the minutes) are made available on the Minutes and Agendas page
